Q&A with Chris Tröndle
Chris is a student of Visual and Media Anthropology and an activist with the Camp Collapse Collective in Berlin. Due to his own climate anxiety, he decided to research emotions and hope in connection to the climate catastrophe. This led him to become active within Extinction Rebellion for a short time, where he got in contact with Jem Bendell’s 2018 Deep Adaptation paper. Subsequently, he joined Camp Collapse, who have become a Deep Adaptation affiliated group in 2021.
In his MA thesis titled The End of the World as We Know it: Hope, Despair and Action among Deep Adapters, Chris explored the question “How do Deep Adapters imagine the future?” by sharing fictional stories collected from DA spaces. The research questions “Which emotions follow the acceptance of collapse as a possibility for the future and how are they dealt with?” and “How does anticipation of collapse influence everyday life and activism?” are explored in more detail through ethnographic research, describing elements of the Deep Adaptation journeys of himself and his research participants.
In this conversation, Wendy and Dorian will be asking Chris and his research participants about how Deep Adaptation, as a set of ideas and an ethical perspective, started to play a role in their lives – and what might have changed for them as a result.

Time: September 30, 6 to 7.30pm UTC. See your local time here.

ABOUT THE CONSCIOUS LEARNING WEBINARS
This webinar is part of the Conscious Learning Festival (July to September, 2021), itself an offshoot of Wendy and Dorian’s participatory Action Research project in the Deep Adaptation Forum (see here). These webinars touch on the topics of learning, change, and Deep Adaptation. Where relevant, they will highlight the presenters’ “learning journey” into the Deep Adaptation Forum and beyond.
Read more about the Festival here, and feel free to convene a discussion of your own!
